About us: Kings Cross Construction Skills centre(KXCSC) is the London borough of Camden's flagship construction training initiative. The centre was set up to address the fact that there was no construction training available in the borough. KXCSC has been in operation since 2005 and moved to a purpose built state of the art construction skills centre in January 2009. The centre is directly linked to the kings Cross central development and provides apprentices to work on site with the various contractors and sub contractors in a variety of trades Our Experience / Expertise: King's Cross Construction Skills Centre is located on York Way, at the heart of the King's Cross Central development. The centre has been operational since June 2004 as Camden Council's construction training and recruitment centre. KXCSC is a partnership between Argent, the developer of King's Cross Central and the London Boroughs of Camden and Islington.
The King's Cross Central planning agreement has a commitment from the developer to ensure local communities benefit from the development at King's Cross.
All three construction partners at King's Cross Central (BAM, Carillion, and Kier Group) have signed up to a delivery model which provides work placements and employment opportunities within their supply chains.
The training delivered by the current and previous Contractors at KXCSC aimed to maximise apprentice placements on King's Cross Central. Training delivered has varied from Level 1 training in Carpentry, Brickwork and Civil Engineering to level 2, entry level courses in construction, a range of NVQ provision and a number of bespoke courses aimed at meeting the needs of employers.

KXCSC also delivers apprentice and employment brokerage to S106 developers across the borough.
Our Vision: To help local residents gain the necessary skills required to gain employment within the construction industry. The centre aims at providing local people employment and training opportunities linked to a variety of construction sites in particular the kings cross central site.
Career Opportunities & Training: The centre delivers an in house 14 week level 1 programme leading to a paid 18 month apprenticeship with our training provider Carillion Construction training. The centre currently delivers level 1 training in Carpentry and Joinery and General construction this then leads to a level 2 apprenticeship in either carpentry and joinery, interior systems and general construction. Our Team/Staff: The centre has a dedicated employability team that provide specialist construction information advice and guidance and job brokerage support to local residents . In addition to the employability team Carillion Construction training operate their training from the centre with dedicated specialist construction tutors and key skills support. Location: The centre is based in the heart of the Kings Cross central development a ten minute walk from Kings cross station. The centre is an accredited test centre for CSCS (construction skills certificate scheme) this is the test that people are required by law to have before being able to work on a construction site . The test is free to all Camden residents that are unemployed and are looking for a career in the construction industry.
