        If you enjoy and have got a good head for numbers, consider a career as a Quantity Surveyor. Your job will be to manage all of the expenses associated with building and civil engineering projects.         Professionals in this industry tend to work within an office (either in-house or as a contractor) but will be required to carry out site visits too. A typical quantity surveyor salary for graduates is around £20,000 to £30,000. Senior professionals can continue on to earn between £45,000 to £65,000.

        What does a Quantity Surveyor do?

        A typical day of a graduate quantity surveyor includes:

        • Measuring the cost of on-site construction work
        • Reviewing tender documents & contract variations
        • Monitoring profit & loss of a project

        If you wish to continue with a postgraduate course, seek out ones that are RICS accredited.

        Many graduates begin their career after University as an assistant quantity surveyor or trainee quantity surveyor. You'll need to study alongside your job in order to become full-quantified by completing the RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC.) This is a structured programme that can lead to quantity surveyor jobs that carry much greater responsibility than those without it. Your salary is also likely to higher after completing the two-year qualification.
